Avalon Waterways

Operating since 2004, Avalon Waterways are an American based specialist River Cruise company offering mid-price cruises in Europe, China, Southeast Asia and the Amazon.  Sailing in much smaller vessels than cruise ships, most of their river cruise holidays are on an all-inclusive basis with what Avalon Waterways say are highly rated port excursions.  They also run a range of special interest cruises which include culinary, beer and Christmas themed itineraries.

Winners of several travel awards they run river cruises on a fleet 0f 14 different ships. With an average passenger capacity of around 128 guests on each vessel, their smartly designed cabins have floor to ceiling windows so that beds face out to the water rather than face a cabin wall.

Avalon Waterways 2026/27 – more about their river cruises

Avalon say that their cruises are perfect for solo travellers. ‘Spacious yet intimate, our ships cater to your every mood, from the comfy sofas and spectacular views of the Club Lounge to the private sanctuary of your luxurious stateroom. Join an excursion and explore with like-minded travellers, or head out alone for some people watching in a café. With no single supplement to pay on selected departures, time spent alone is just as enjoyable as time spent with your fellow travellers’.

Avalon normally run special promotions throughout the year, that ‘waive’ the single supplement on the cruise portion of selected European & Asian sailings.  These are limited offers with no published end date for the offer itself, so may not be available all the time.  Promotions only normally apply to certain stateroom categories and certain cruises at certain times (applying to more than 20 different European river cruises and 6 different Asian Mekong river cruises at the last time of looking).  Any upgrade fees and any applicable taxes are charged as standard.

Most prices shown don’t include flights and transfers. Avalon say they do this in case you prefer to book them separately or aren’t ready to return home when you disembark. They can advise and book your flights for you though. All their river cruises have a very high standard of cuisine and facilities with everything including gratuities included when you board the cruise ship.

Mindful that this is luxury river cruise experience the majority of holidays without single supplements seem to be between £1650 -£3,000 with flights extra.  There’s currently no option to book your holiday online, so you will need to have a really good look on their site to check their solo traveller offers first.
