Online Dating Tips for Singles

The time has come. You’ve decided to start dating, but how do you write a good dating profile?
Dating online can seem a bit daunting to many, with the risk of heartbreak and the possibility of one or two knock backs, but on the upside the possibility of success just a swipe away. Either way you’ve really got to be ‘in it to win it’ even though it’s not at all easy to write about yourself.
So, if you’re about to dip a toe in these potentially stormy waters, here’s a few very simple things you do to maximise your chances of success?

  • 1.  GET A REALLY, REALLY, GOOD PHOTO
Although this seems obvious, many people don’t. The bottom line is 99% of viewers are going to judge you by your photo.   Do it yourself photos and selfies just don’t do it, so spruce yourself up and ask a friend to take a photo for you. Remember, if you’re serious about finding a partner this is your future at stake here!! You want to be seen at your best so it may even be worth considering using the services of a professional photographer who has all the best equipment and best lighting for a really good head shot.

  • 2.  THINK ABOUT YOUR DESCRIPTION
OK, so far so good….. People looking at your profile will only take a few seconds to look at your picture and your headline before deciding whether to read your profile in full.  So take time out to come up with a noticeable headline and description that captures your personality. If you’re stuck get a good friend to help, they’re more likely to sum up all the wonderful good things about you that you might overlook.  This is no time to be humble!

  • 3.  BE ABSOLUTELY HONEST (BUT DO USE YOUR DISCRETION)
Although it’s really important to be honest about your basic info and what you are looking for from a partner it isn’t necessary to divulge every bit of information about yourself all at once.  This gives them a chance to ask about you and take their time learning more about you bit by bit so you can build a relationship. Once you feel you’ve found someone you really like, then dive head-in!

  • 4.  IF YOU’RE SERIOUS ABOUT FINDING YOUR SOULMATE, TAKE IT ABSOLUTELY SERIOUSLY
Like a self- fulfilling prophecy, someone once said that if you believe you can, you can, but if you believe you can’t, you’re right. The same applies to online dating. If you are signing up simply to please friends and family who feel you should have a partner, or if you’re not truly committed to using it as a way to help you find a compatible match or even if you still believe you’re a lost cause for love then the chances are you most likely won’t get much out of your online dating experience.

Do your best to give it a serious chance. Put some energy into your profile and some thoughts into your search. Statistics show that those who do and approach it ‘like any other project’ really do find ‘the one’.  So like anything you’ll need to work at it, but the longer you do and the more you do, the more it will pay off.

  • 5.  ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO READ YOUR PROFILE
Yes we know we said 4 and this is 5.. But lastly and very importantly,  we highly recommend asking your friends to sanity check your final dating profile before it goes live.
You may have read over it 100 times but it’s easy to still miss little things like spelling mistakes or a missed word.
Your friends will also be honest, – if they think you’re falsely representing yourself or giving away too much information – they’ll tell you.
