This month’s star find!
Individual Ready to Cook Spinach Portions
With the very welcome news earlier this year that Tesco are working to reduce plastic-wrapped multi-packs and remove 350 tonnes of plastic from the environment a year, perhaps it’s not so good news to hear that they’re still planning to promote multi-buy deals. Not so great for single households that don’t need them.
Great to see that some supermarkets and food producers are now beginning to realise that there are more than 17 million single people in the UK, all looking for innovative ideas and new food products. And yes, most of us trying to avoid highly processed food products, microwave meals and especially ‘buy one get one free and multi-buy deals, so thank you, thank you, thank you to those that are recognising single households and the ‘single’ cook, even more so in these difficult times.
So here’s something we’ve found that doesn’t come in a tin – but in a bag and frozen down into really handy individual portions, ideal for one and ready to use with no waste. Whole leaf spinach, ingeniously frozen into small individual portions to use as required. Frozen within hours of harvest at the very peak of freshness to capture all the amazing vitamins packed into the leaves. At around £1.25 a pack, works out at around 15p a portion, a bit more expensive than you might normally pay but less waste and so much more economical. Similar packs also available in Tesco’s, Sainsburys and Waitrose.
- Healthier & tastes good: Frozen spinach tastes every bit as good as fresh spinach. Fresh Spinach doesn’t keep so long and loses some of its vitamins over time. Normally sold in big family packs of 200g or more, it can start to wilt very quickly.
- Easy & convenient: Comes with the added convenience of having it in the freezer for a spontaneous nutrient boost, the taste and texture is perfect. Works well stirred into soups and sauces, curries and dahl for a bit of colour and texture. Used directly from the freezer without the need to thaw it first, its easily sneaked into all sorts of recipes for an added vitamin boost, check out a good recipe here.
- Packed full of vitamins: One of your 5 a day, Spinach is an amazing source of calcium, vitamins and many other important nutrients, all of which help to strengthen your bones and provide a whole host of other health benefits.
Already frozen into handy single 80g portions, this powerful little veg is an ideal nutrient boost for all sorts of recipes when you’re cooking a recipe for one.
PS Yes, we do realise it’s really mad to get excited about individual portions of veggies, but its great to find something new that comes in a single portion, that tastes good and really handy for one.
