About their Rail Tours for Solo Travellers 2026/27
This year’s 2026 holiday schedule includes 5 different Classic & Discovery Rail Tours in the UK, Europe and India with NO Single Supplements. Their European journeys start from Great Rail Journeys own dedicated departure base in London’s St Pancras International Railway Station which include rail tours to inspirational destinations to the South of France, Switzerland and Tuscany.
All ‘sharing a passion for travel with a touch of adventure, travellers come from all backgrounds and usually aged between 45-75. Most tours are accompanied by a local guide as well as a tour manager; enabling travellers get a true insight into the area. This includes some excursions to off-the-beaten-track destinations that you wouldn’t come across without their local knowledge.
Tours also include many of the meals throughout their holidays, served in the hotel – or sometimes in a popular local restaurant with an option to dine together which means that ‘mealtimes are often the most sociable times of the day’ Excursions are optional and holidays often include free time if you prefer to head out on your own.
Our solo travellers enjoy the same benefits as everyone else, while at the same time getting the benefits of a flexible solo experience. All our tours give the option of whether to join the group on an excursion or venture off on their own, providing an option for those who prefer undisturbed exploration.
At the time of writing, prices start from £929 for 6 day tour of Railways & Castles of Wales with departures in October, through to an 8 day All Inclusive Calabria: Italy’s Hidden Gem tour from £1,799 departing in May to £3,299 for an 9 day rail tour across the Swiss Alps on the ‘Traditional Glacier Express.
Great Rail Journeys also run a 9 day First Class Mountaintops of Switzerland in Winter rail tour using a combination of mountain railways right to the very the top of mainland Europe from £3,199 – with other rail tours available.
All their other worldwide tours are also available to single travellers. They actively welcome and look out for solo travellers on their other tours with a mix, of couples, singles and friends travelling together ensuring they enjoy the exact same high quality as everyone else. These other tours incur a Single Supplement though so aren’t included here.
