THE RAMBLERS: LOVE IT, SAVE IT – DON’T LOSE YOUR WAY
Our paths are one of our most precious assets, hidden in plain sight, and often taken for granted, they allow everyone to enjoy the countryside, both on our doorstep and across Britain’s iconic landscapes and with only 5 years left to collect the historical, documentary evidence needed to build and submit applications to restore the most important paths for future generations, time is running out .
With the help of thousands of volunteers we searched all of England and Wales and found over 49,000 miles of paths which could be lost forever.
Have completed this first stage of the process thanks to the support of thousands of volunteers who compared current maps of England and Wales with two historic maps from 120 years ago to identify more than 49,000 miles of paths, they’re now looking for help to put these paths back on the map. With a deadline of submitting applications of the 1st January 2026, The Ramblers are now looking for help to prioritise those paths which add the most benefit for people, research individual paths to find out if they can be saved and then build applications based on historical evidence.
