Hot Cross French Toast

- 1 hot cross bun
- 1 tablespoon soft butter
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 small egg – beaten
- 25ml/1oz fl oz milk
- vanilla ice-cream and maple syrup or honey, to serve and drizzle
- optional – icing sugar to dust
Searching for inspiration for your hot cross buns – leftover or not? Try this truly decadent Hot Cross French Toast recipe for one for a brilliant Easter week breakfast or teatime treat.
- Reserving some of butter for the frying pan, mix just under 1 tablespoon of butter together with a small pinch of cinnamon and mash together and sandwich between two halves of the hot cross bun. Beat the egg, milk and another small pinch of cinnamon together.
- Dip the bun in the egg mix and leave to soak for a few minutes. Heat the remaining butter in a frying pan until its foaming and cook the hot cross buns for 1-2 minutes each side until light golden.
- Sprinkle with the icing sugar and serve each portion with a scoop of ice-cream OR creme fraiche and a drizzle of honey and maple syrup.
- Eat straight away!
